Job Interview Makeup

IMG_8728

IMG_8733Begin with a moisturizer, because moisturizeing your face is IMPORTANT. Then, prime your face– some say this makes no difference whereas others like me find it vital so it lasts all day and goes on nice and smooth.

IMG_8736Onto face necessities, I wouldn’t say foundation is necessary because it’s important to not completely cover up, at least it’s a tip I carry when meeting someone new- and especially for an interview. Eyebrows are up to you, but I find filling mine in a task worthwhile since they may be accidentally covered in concealer and it tends to bring any look at all together on the face. I have with the dip brow, an essence eyeliner brush which I find works just as good as the matching $18 brush which sits next to the product on the shelf.

IMG_8737A cat eye is a bit much for an interview, so a nice brown smudge of a line with a slight flick at the end brings attention to the eyes without being overpowering. Mascara is a go-to no matter where I’m going I feel a little more put together with mascara on, and once again it brings attention to one’s eyes.

IMG_8739Blush is always a fun time; I have a matte and a shimmery one- its personal preference really. I like to go for shimmery coral because I find it looks natural and glowing whereas matte reminds me of fall and works best for a super natural approach. Along with powder (which should go on before blush) I would suggest using a setting brush instead of a giant fluffy one if just going with concealer.

IMG_8740Highlighter is to glow, and I am one who loves glowing haha. I also have a lip balm with color (completely go for Burt’s Bees because this is Dior and this was a splurge for me) so it’s not too much like lip gloss or lipstick can sometimes be. Setting spray to set the face and re-hydrate is next, if needed.

LET’S TAlK FIFTY SHADES OF GENIUS

Okay, so it’s currently 12:30 AM.

The video came out at 12:00 AM EST time.

I WAS PREPARED IF YOU COULDN’T TELL.

This due to the fact that I haven’t heard new music from Taylor Swift in ages and it was DUE with everything that’s happened in my life lately, this song hits pretty close to home.

Now, I want to talk about the video because I have a theory. I’m not sure what the director meant to do with the changing colors, but I have an idea, hear me out.

So you know that song “red” Taylor Swift wrote for her album “Red” back in 2012 right? Okay, well the album is heart-cuttingly beautiful in the sense that it grabs your soul by the suspenders and feels as if Taylor Swift has just thrown her heart out on the line, and taken all of ours with it.

The song RED has the line:

“Losing him was blue like I’d never known
Missing him was dark grey all alone
Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met
But loving him was red”

I believe red stands for passion or love.

Green stands for jealousy, although not mentioned in Swift’s song “red,” but has been mentioned on a tour where she describes the color green as jealousy which people tend to do anyhow.

And blue stands for sad and upsetting emotions where you know you need to let go but can’t bring yourself to.

Now, in the video it begins with Zayn coming out of a fancy car in the rain as press jump up his ass to get a photo(figure of speech), and it’s simply him walking through a building facing the casual things (such as photography ninjas) artists sadly face these days.

As he strolls into the elevator the green begins to change to red as he sings the line “I just wanna keep calling your name until you come back home” in Swift’s direction as the camera turns toward towards her and red filters between them before it turns to green right as Swift’s line begins.

“I’m sitting eyes wide open and I got one thing stuck in my mind,” and changes to red as
“Wondering if I dodged a bullet or just lost the love of my life,” is sung–  “oh” the last word being green before becoming a regular camera setting with no mood lighting involved as Swift reflect’s on the nights she’s stayed up restless.

*Entering the room of Zayn is Swift ooo here we go*

Red comes in flashes now as she sings certain words that suggest certain things. If you know what I MEAN. Although it could potentially be nothing like that, but considering it’s a song written for a fifty shade of grey movie…

She pours wine and picks petals off of white roses (a symbol for true love, not red which I thought was the other way around).

“Until you come back home” is sung by Zayn and now the blue appears right before Swift’s line “I’ve been looking sad in all the nicest places”

They then proceed to reflect on their relationship, Zayn looks to be holding a letter or photographs which he end up tossing across the room while Swift has her moment in the bathroom taring at herself in the mirror most likely thinking “girl what are you doing.”

“What is happening to me”is when the blue comes into play again, in flashes along with red for less time.

Zayn is then seen sitting in that sort of crouched position where shit has hit the fan and you feel like crying but you can’t cry sort of vibe as the light flashes blue.

The real kicker is as they sing the line “I just wanna keep calling your name until you come back home” repeatedly, light flashing red, normal coloring, and blue. They are turned away from each other in every scene with blue and red suggesting they can’t deal with the emotions which are going haywire.

At the very end, the lights are still flashing red and blue whilst instead of turned away, they are looking right at each other.

Getting Used to Contour

I’m not one for contouring…

The first ever bronzer/ contour (I know they are two separate things) I owned was the too faced chocolate soleil bronzer in milk chocolate back when it was the old packaging. I loved it, it smelled like chocolate, therefore I had to have it for Christmas.

I was a sophomore in high school at the time, pretty new to makeup in general. I didn’t really know how to use it, so it wasn’t something I clung to in my everyday makeup routine and soon fell out completely.

Bronzer is the closest thing I’ve ever gotten to contouring or “tanning” my face. Definitely isn’t a necessity for me though.

But, one night a couple months ago I saw Dani Mansutti using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit in a YouTube video and I thought “what is that gorgeous palette?” Especially the banana shade which to my hearts content is actually called “banana.” Score.

So, I did my research, found it on Sephora, picked it up at the shop, and since then I have been pretty in love with this thing.

From left to right: Vanilla, Banana, and Sand
From left to right: Java, Fawn, and Havana

Vanilla: can be used as a powder, highlight, eyeshadow

Banana: a highlighting powder, especially good for under the eyes to cancel dark circles

Sand: a highlighting powder

Java: a warm mocha contour

Fawn: light brown contour

Havana: a warm red based contour

All of the shades are highly pigmented. It’s simply amazing.

In my opinion it is worth the $40 because it has many different uses besides contouring.

This palette’s shades can definitely be used as eyeshadow too.

I just love this thing, let me know what you think of it! 🙂

Love,

Nat 💖
