I loved this show. This is my favorite show.
It was a cartoon, and I’ve loved it ever since I can remember. Seriously, since I was about 12 this show has been on… I’m 21 going on 22 soon.
The pilot episode aired in 2007 – 2008 making the show about ten years old on it’s final day, today, September 3.
It had heart, was easy to watch, references literature, gaming (Zelda, card wars, etc.), shows such as “Cheers” and potentially even “Friends” noticed not only by me but other people too.
The stories which began as Finn, Jake, and friend adventures grew to include more in-depth stories with other characters like Marceline’s for instance with the episode “I remember you” and many more leading on to discover Simon’s past, Princess Bubblegum’s family, even BMO’s, Tree Trunks and the Lich’s life.
Character changes occurred, LSP’s growing understanding of life outside of her parents’, the Lich turning good instead of evil, Ice King going from bad, evil, cold old man to caring, kind, has a tough past but means well always, and many more.
This show has so many life lessons while also being funny to watch for adults, some jokes flew over my head when I was 13 etc. but as soon as I turned 19 or 20 catching them wasn’t hard. It’s like randomly discovering a new way to watch an old favorite show… you catch all the things you didn’t before.
I went from loving this show to being slightly embarrassed I still watched cartoons (okay completely) at 14 to being 18 watching them now and then to 21 feeling this bittersweet happiness it’s ending.
It’s like the end of an era as funny as that sounds.
It’s not just the end of the show for me personally, it feels like more as odd as that seems.
This is a show I hope is still on playing reruns one day when I have kids. That day won’t be for a long long time, buy hey, I’m serious. It’s really great, it’s always been great, and I’ll always remember it.
Not only was the cartoon itself fun to watch, but it had great stories through music, through relationships between characters, hinted at life lessons without throwing them in your face, this show seriously sounds like the biggest waste of time to anyone over 25 probably, but it’s not. It’s the best way to spend time actually.
I’m really happy I got to spend my time with a show I know will forever be recognized, even if it’s “just a cartoon” to some.
